Are We As Stupid As Democrats Think?

January 14, 2019

Government Shutdown

Democrats must think you and I are pretty much complete idiots. Here’s why I say that:

During my career I’ve been involved in literally hundreds of negotiations. Not all have been successful, but the majority have ended up with both parties getting at least some of what they want.

One thing I have never done was sit down with someone who I knew had absolutely no interest in making a deal — who I knew from the beginning wasn’t going to budge from an unreasonable position. Negotiating with someone like that is a waste of everyone’s time. In the end, no one accomplishes anything.

Such is the case with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. They’ve made it clear in every utterance and meeting since Trump’s address to the nation that they haven’t the least interest in a compromise that would increase border security and re-open the government.

Let’s be candid. Their position has NOTHING to do with the border nor anything to do with the shutdown.

Not in the least. This is all about the 2020 presidential election. Democrats are scared to death that if Trump fulfills his 2016 campaign promises, they’ll have a tougher battle to win back the White House. But if they can embarrass him, or make him look weak, they think winning will be far easier.

During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump called for building a wall on our southern border. He intended it then as now to help address the problem of illegal immigration which costs billions of taxpayers dollars and often physical harm to Americans — even death.

But, for Donald Trump, this is really about so much more than keeping a campaign promise. This is about protecting the American people from an abundance of drugs flowing across the border, of keeping gang members like MS-13 out, of saving American tax payers billions of dollars and saving American lives.

It’s about more for Democrats as well. In fact, I’m convinced it’s about what is most important to Democrats — gaining and keeping political power.

You may have heard that in both New York City and California, liberals propose taxpayers provide illegal immigrants with free medical insurance. In some cases, they also propose illegals vote in local elections, and even receive free college tuition.

It’s clear Democrats are doing what they have done for decades now. They are using the levers of government power, and the largesse of taxpayer funds, to gain political support from a favored political group.

Democrats can’t stop describing nearly every effort by Republicans to address immigration reform as racist. It’s a purely cynical ploy to convince Hispanic voters in America that Republicans hate them. Exhibit 1 is their insistence that only Democrats care about illegal immigrants — those already here and those still trying to get here.

But it doesn’t stop there. They also want the votes of those 12 - 17 million undocumented immigrants currently in America as well as the hundreds of thousands more they can attract here with promises of welfare, healthcare, education and whatever other freebies they can use to mobilize them.

So first, they’ll way whatever necessary to convince Hispanics that Republicans hate them. Then, they’ll push for illegal immigrants to receive the franchise in as many voting jurisdictions as possible.

It’s a potential bonanza of new votes in a country nearly evenly divided between the two parties.

If it works, you can expect once they regain control, they’ll immediately agitate for full citizenship rights for illegal immigrants. The more the better! So long as those new citizens do what they’re told and vote for Democrats.

Do you doubt it? Consider that Pelosi and Schumer refuse to even negotiate. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is desperate for a deal. Democrats could easily get the DREAMER reforms they claim are important to them. They could probably even get other concessions that might put many law-abiding illegals on the path to legal residence. All they have to do is give Trump a few billion to extend the border fence or wall — a wall that already runs in short sections and has proven to reduce illegal cross overs by more than 90% where it exists!

Democrats aren’t actually interested in any of it. They also have no interest in a deal that would put 800,000 government employee back on the job. Not at all.

Democrats won’t negotiate because the only prize they’re interested in is the one they get by refusing to negotiate — millions of Hispanic votes. Lying about Republican motives, as well as their own, is the least of the costs they’re willing to pay.
