Hard to Remain Civil

I read a Facebook post from a good friend yesterday who lamented the name-calling and lack of civil conversation in our body politic.

It’s hard to argue against his point. Civility is at an all time low throughout our culture and our society. In entertainment, academia, the media, business, just about everywhere we look these days we see conflict and contention.

Now my friend was referring specifically to our political discourse. And he’s right. But I don’t think he’s giving adequate weight to the simple fact that if we conservatives made a collective decision to debate the issues with total civility, the socialist Democrats would be perfectly content to run right over us.

Please read the paragraph below sent to me from the CEO of the Democratic Party:

It’s very hard to simply say, “we’ll just have to agree to disagree” when they’ve matched their already toxic rhetoric with such atrocious behavior. Being civil and just hoping that’s the end of it simply isn’t a realistic option when someone is trying to burn down your house.

The left’s core competency is the use of raw political cynicism for political gain no matter the damage it does to truth and decency.

The Kavanaugh nomination is just the latest example. There is NO doubt the left couldn’t care less about the actual well-being of Dr. Ford, Judge Kavanaugh’s accuser. This entire sorry chapter in our current political story has been, and thanks to Senator Jeff Flake will continue to be, pure politics — and filthy, corrupt politics at that.

Any honest observer paying reasonable attention over the past few weeks would have to admit that the Democrats do not now, nor have they ever, had even the slightest inclination to give Judge Kavanaugh fair consideration.

Chuck Schumer and the overwhelming majority of Democrats in the Senate announced long ago they were NO votes on confirmation — well before the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh surfaced. In fact, most of them refused to even meet with Judge Kavanaugh.

Why? Politics! The Democrats had then, and continue to have now, two goals. First, do whatever it takes to keep President Trump from putting another judge on the Supreme Court; and, second, kill Judge Kavanaugh’s reputation, career, and life for no reason other than that he’s a solid conservative judge who stands in their way.

Their phony public display of concern for Dr. Ford was simply a smoke screen to make sure voters didn’t trip to their underhanded effort to utterly destroy Judge Kavanaugh and score a win against President Trump.

If this was ever in doubt, the latest controversy surrounding the so-called FBI investigation reveals the truth. Senator Kamala Harris, (who is running for President in 2020), while sanctimoniously insisting on an FBI investigation to “get to the truth” was, at the same moment, sending out a petition to her supporters urging them to sign against Judge Kavanaugh.

It’s corrupt politics intended to twist reality to fit the Democrats’ narrative and promote their goals of stopping conservatives generally and Trump specifically. It’s nothing more.

And if they have to lie, cheat, and steal to achieve those goals; well that’s ok because after all their doing it for a good cause — at least as they define the good. In this case, putting themselves into political power.

It’s hard to be civil when so very much is at stake, and the other side is literally willing to destroy the lives and reputations of anyone who gets in their way.
