Language and Outrage

Our President says (or maybe he didn’t) ‘sh_thole’ referring to some less than desirable countries. One way we know they’re less than desirable is that many of their citizens are working hard to leave them and move to our country. We also know they’re less that desirable because despite their braying and bleating, liberals would never choose to take their families to them on vacation. We’re talking about countries that have vast poverty, poor standards of health, high crime, few opportunities, and inadequate education.
Nevertheless, there is outrage beyond limits by the liberal elite, the NEVER TRUMPers, and the "holier-than-thou crowd" that a president would use such language to reference another country or countries.
In my experience, places change. Haiti used to be a wonderful Caribbean Island where the rich and famous would go. My father would vacation down there because it was reasonably inexpensive, featured beautiful beaches, offered decent food, and my father loved Haitian art. But I assure you, if he were alive today, he wouldn’t step foot on the island (not because he is a racist,) but because it has in fact turned into a sh-thole. The politicians in Haiti make our politicians look like saints by comparison. They steal every dime they can, most really don’t give a damn about their own people, and usually, when they have stolen all they can, they move to a nicer Caribbean island and live on their illegally-gained money.
Haiti has had some really bad luck. Hurricanes, earthquakes, and the Clinton Foundation which raised and promised hundreds of millions to help the poor people of this Island. I am curious why Hillary, Chelsea, and even Bill — despite raising millions for Haitian relief — didn’t adequately monitor how the money was actually being spent. As a result of their neglect, much of the money they raised went down a rathole. Isn’t it strange that so much money was raised and barely any improvements were made other than the US Taxpayers helping tens of thousands of Haitians relocate to the US.
I wonder what the liberal elite would have said if Trump had called Los Angeles a shi-thole? Afterall, like Haiti, LA was once a beautiful paradise — pristine beaches, functional highways, few homeless, no graffiti, almost no trash by the roadside, and English was about the only language you heard (except for the many from around the world that were overjoyed at a trip to LA).
Today, all that’s changed. Graffiti is everwhere, the roads are littered with trash and potholes, homeless are allowed to go to the bathroom on the sidewalks, you rarely hear English spoken, traffic is horrendous, and the politicians and liberal elite in CA relish their standing as a sanctuary state. Put another way, Los Angeles has become a sh-thole!
If Trump called these other places ‘sh-tholes’ maybe he could have used more presidential language. But at the end of the day, they are what they are. Is it America’s fault these places are like they are? Haven’t we, the American taxpayer, poured our billions into helping these countries. Didn’t George W. provide vast sums to help the HIV epidemic in Africa, didn’t the US Navy go to Haiti with a small armada of ships, planes, people and medical supplies, building materials and heavy equipment after their earthquake to help the people?
It isn’t, after all, like we as a country have abandoned these countries; we have NOT. The taxpayers of the USA have been very generous indeed. It is NOT our fault that these places have corrupt political systems that siphon off the dollars and Euros that flow into their coffers only to be pocketed by corrupt politicians who take and pay bribes. Is it any wonder damn little gets done and these countries remain sh-tholes. Or that the regular people in these countries are working so hard to get out of them. I will say that it is our fault that when we give these monies we don’t manage the process of how the dollars are spent, or that hold recipients accountable. Just as I think the Clinton Foundation should have done the same thing.
So, liberal elites, untwist your knickers and get on with life. If he said it, it’s said. He can’t unring the bell. And while it may make him colorful, it doesn’t make him racist.
