More on Illegal Immigration

Joe Biden, former Vice President under Obama, recently opined that illegal immigrants are “already Americans.”

Not all that surprising really since both he and his former boss advocate open borders and the elimination of ICE — the federal agency responsible for enforcing our immigration laws.

But Obama and Biden are by no means alone among leftists obsessed with illegal immigration. Progressives all over America today spend an inordinate amount of time talking about how we need to let in anyone who wants to come in, and not just that.

The left argues we must also provide them housing, food, education, and health care. Protect them with sanctuary status from prosecution or deportation by federal authorities. Then, at the soonest possible moment, provide them citizenship, the ability to vote, and all the other rights guaranteed by our Constitution.

That’s not all. Dissatisfied with limiting immigration to merely those who receive legal entry as well as those who sneak across our border illegally, the left also insists they invite their entire families to join them and receive the full panoply of taxpayer funded benefits.

Of course, no one on the left will tell us how in the world we are to pay for all this. Presumably they expect to use the same “tax-the-rich” formula they advocate for funding Medicare-for-all (30 trillion,) free education (100 billion,) subsidized housing (10 billion,) the repeal of recent tax cuts (billions more,) and guaranteed employment for everyone (at least 543 billion just to start.)

The left doesn’t seem to understand that a dollar can be spent only once. But then, most of them received a union education.

There is little doubt that unbridled immigration hurts huge segments of our society. Illegals who don’t work soak up taxpayer funded benefits intended to help Americans in real need. Those who do work drive down wages, and take jobs from other Americans. Black Americans and Hispanic immigrants here legally are the ones hurt most. Then there are those illegals who intend harm; who come to traffic in drugs, people, or who engage in crime.

The solution is actually pretty simple.

1. Enforce E-Verify which requires proof of legal status to be hired.
2. Secure the border.
3. Enforce Visa laws, and deport those who overstay their Visas.
4. Eliminate chain migration. Rather than base immigration on family relationships, base it on the relative value to our society of the applicant.
5. Eliminate automatic citizenship for babies born here of illegal immigrants or visitors.

None of this is hard or complicated, but sadly the left rejects out-of-hand every proposal intended to reign in illegal immigration. They’d rather throw open the borders and allow anyone in who wants in — no matter their intention, criminal history, desire to work, or interest in assimilating to our culture. They have no idea whether law abiding Americans will be harmed or not, nor do they seem to care,

No matter their obsessions or passions, the left will not decide the issue of immigration alone. Ultimately, it will be a choice made by voters. If we vote for liberal Democrats who support open borders, Medicare-for-all, citizenship for everyone, free this and free that (nothing is really free,) then we’ll get the result we deserve.

But first, you should consider where else in the world you think you’ll escape once unlimited immigration has damaged our economy and wrecked the government fisc. If such a place still exists when this one is ruined, you’ll likely find a big reason why is because their immigration policy is far stricter than our own.
