One Song Wonders

Shopping for a new sofa yesterday, I stubbed my toe. Extensive research revealed the surprising fact that Donald Trump owns the land on which the furniture store is located.

I’m confident then that it’s President Trump’s fault my toe was stubbed. It’s certainly not my fault. Though I was checking my email at the time, and ignoring the obstacles around me as I walked through the store, it’s Trump who owned the land, allowed the store to be built, and encouraged a furniture retailer to locate in the space.

Sound stupid? Of course, but it’s exactly the kind of stupidity that spews from the left every single day of the week. They only know one tune, and it’s always anti-Trump.

Just look at the most recent example, the evil and heinous killing of innocent worshippers at two mosques this week in New Zealand. Hardly had the smoke cleared than Democrats were blaming President Trump.

It’s the most recent, but hardly the only example. Trump has been blamed for the school shooting in Parkland, FL; the mass shooting of Jewish worshippers in Pittsburgh, PA; the incivility on Facebook; and the fender bender you got into last week.

No doubt the left will find a way to blame the two Boeing MAX 737 crashes on our president even though the vast majority of approvals for this plane were done under Obama.

But while Trump is the clear target of the left’s blame for every perceived problem around the globe, he’s the last to receive any credit for policies that have given us the lowest unemployment in decades. He’s even less likely to get any credit for the historically low unemployment among those who are most vulnerable today — blacks, hispanics, and women.

He gets no credit for the business tax cuts that have contributed to all those new jobs, no credit for the lower taxes that working families will pay this year, no credit for the massive expansion in people’s retirement accounts, no credit for the crackdown on crime, no credit for the balancing of trade rules that make them more fair, and no credit for rebuilding America’s defenses, or repairing Justice Department relations with local law enforcement, or reducing the massive over-regulation of small and medium sized businesses.

No credit will be given to Trump for taking a hard line against the theft by China of intellectual property; no credit for renewing our relationships with countries that Obama tried to walk away from like Israel and Saudi Arabia; and he gets no credit for opening and continuing negotiations with North Korea to make the Korean Peninsula nuclear free.

In short, when Trump achieves anything good, it’s crickets and negative spin. If anything happens that’s bad, even if Trump is not remotely involved, it’s an avalanche of negativity and accusation aimed at our President.

The result is a Democrat Party more far more interested in lobbing bombs against the president than in offering realistic or meaningful solutions to the problems we do have. But they don’t care about government paralysis, they only care about blocking ANYTHING that could conceivably be perceived as progress. Then, as frustration grows, Democrats will blame the president for the very lack of progress they want.

This is NOT what Americans voted for in 2016. They voted to upend control by the elites who believe they know better than regular people. They said 8 years of Obama was enough. They were tired of the massive growth and cost of government, the hollowing out of America’s defenses, the idea that we should “lead from behind” (whatever that means,) the higher taxes, the massive regulations on everyday life, the division and hatefulness that entered our daily dialogue as Obama and his allies sought to pitch one American against another on race, age, class, religion, and gender.

Most significantly, Americans voted against the constant refrain of blame and finger-pointing that Obama birthed and Hillary mid-wifed. But Democrats didn’t get that message. Every day since Trump’s win, Democrats have worked feverishly to double down on their strategy of division by resisting, blaming, harassing, and lying to the American people about Trump and anyone who supports him or is even willing to work with him.

Every presidential election year, the Democrats come up with a tune they all stick to. In 2016 it was “Tax, Spend, and Regulate,” and in that election we told them we weren’t interested. This time their only tune is, “Blame Trump.” We shouldn’t miss the chance to tell them again we’re still not interested.
