Opposite World

When I contrast the presidencies of Obama and Trump, looking through the eyes of the left, It reminds me of that old SyFy channel show called Opposite Worlds.
Consider this:
The left loved Obama in spite of his phony chest pounding and bogus red line drawing over Syria’s use of chemical weapons. What looked to the rest of us like a dangerous weakness, the left celebrated as “moderation” and restraint.
By contrast, Trump sent missiles into Syria’s military bases when they used chemical weapons. No bogus red lines. No fake chest thumping. The left vilified him as overly aggressive.
President Obama tried to convince the country that “Obamacare” was the cure for America’s health care ills, that it would increase quality and reduce costs. Over and over, he told us, “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.” Even as he spoke it, he knew he wasn’t telling us the truth.
But in spite of the lies, and in spite of the obvious increases in health care costs under Obamacare, the left thought Obama was just great. The left was glad government played a bigger role even if it meant higher costs, lower quality, or less access — or a combination of all three. The left can’t help but glorify government — it’s as much what defines them as love for freedom and respect for individual dignity define us conservatives.
President Trump has tried repeatedly to repeal Obamacare only to be frustrated by Democrats wedded to big government, and a rogue Republican with a personal grudge against the President. The left cheered the prospect of continuing high priced, inferior health care. Go figure!
In eight brief years, Obama increased our national debt by more than EVERY president before him in the previous 200 plus years combined. But when President Trump wanted to rebuild our military, the left made the price for national security huge spending on expensive and inefficient social programs. Even after their policy extortions, the left went nuts claiming Trump was adding to the national debt (without ever admitting it was at a much slower rate than Obama.) Such a double standard!
If you doubt it, remember how Democrats justified Obama’s massive deficits as a valiant attempt to revitalize the economy? Well, when Republicans under Donald Trump launched economic growth unparalleled in 5 decades with policies that cut taxes and reduced regulations, the left squealed. Despite huge improvements in job growth and real increases in the incomes of every American, most dramatically among the poor, the left complained Republicans were helping the rich and rolling back the size and scope of government.
At an international leadership conference just before Obama’s re-election, Obama was accidentally caught telling the president from Russia that once re-elected he would have much more freedom. Sure enough, shortly after the election, Obama increased the share of American uranium we sold Russia to 20%. At the same time, Obama refused to send weapons that Ukraine could have used to fight off an illegal Russian invasion. What did we hear from the left? Crickets!
By contrast, Trump increased sanctions against Russia, armed Ukraine, and worked to reduce the economic support our allies give Russia. But despite Obama’s concessions to Russia, and Trump’s severe penalties on Russia’s bad behavior, the left can’t help but accuse Trump of being “soft” on Putin.
It’s hypocrisy, pure and simple. And these are only a few examples. Where is the integrity? Or even the logic?
Now the left is tripping over themselves to endorse the whole crazy messed up policy agenda of the socialist movement. It’s almost inconceivable, but it could only happen if in their minds Obama wasn’t the complete failure, and Trump wasn’t the so far stunning success, the rest of us so plainly see.
It could only happen because the left refuses to see the consequences of socialism in every single instance it’s EVER been tried in the whole economic history of the world.
It could only happen if in their minds reality is exactly the reverse from our reality; and the world where they live is absolutely opposite the one inhabited by the rest of us.
