The Real Cost of Illegal Immigration

For the past two weeks Democrats and President Trump have argued over whether America’s 11 million illegal immigrants cost taxpayers $100 billion or more than twice that much.

In my blog post yesterday I show that the Democrat accounting fails to consider the so called “hidden” costs of illegal immigration — the random crime, the organized gangs and their drugs, the wear and tear on infrastructure, the under-reported health care costs, the expense of printing signs and government materials in multiple languages, and so much more.

But just for the sake of argument, let’s say the real cost of illegal immigration is somewhere around $200 billion.

Imagine for a moment how we could spend that money. We could give every taxpayer a $2,000 refund. We could give every homeless vet $5 million. Over ten years, we could reduce our national debt by 2 trillion dollars. Or we could pay 1/5 the cost of rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure.

Whether the combined costs all-in are $150 billion or $250 billion doesn’t matter. What does matter is that Democrats would rather put illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens — our taxpayers, our vets, our debt or repairing our infrastructure.

Why are we not pointing this out at every turn. Why are we tolerating this?

In Illinois this year the voters turned their state government entirely over to the Democrats. Guess what their number ONE priority is? TAX THE HELL OUT OF THE PEOPLE! In a state that already suffers under one of the highest tax burdens in the country, Illinois Democrats are talking about raising taxes on everything that moves and a lot of things that don’t starting with a 10% increase in gas taxes. Why? At least part of the reason for the increase is the need to support illegal immigrants in their sanctuary cities.

So the voters of Illinois elected a huge bus load of Socialist Democrats whose first mission is picking the pockets of those who elected them. GREAT! I sincerely feel for Illinois’ voters, but let’s face it, they have no one to blame but themselves.

When — or where — will we learn? Apparently not in recent elections in California, New York, Maryland or Connecticut. Voters in those states elected even more Democrats this year; and, in every case, they are states with huge sanctuary cities where high taxes support large populations of illegal immigrants.

Honestly, I don’t know who’s more at fault, the politicians who promote this insanity or the voters who elect them. One thing is clear though, we have to stop this now. It’s wrong on every level. And every year it is only getting worse.

Until it stops though, we taxpayers will be used by Democrats to supply golden eggs for their support of illegal immigrants. They don’t realize though there will be no more gold once their high taxes destroy our economy and finally cook our goose.
