Travel Gate — the Congressional Version
January 22, 2019

I used to wonder why in the world those elected to Congress were so hell bent on spending their lives at what most believe is a thankless job.
I don’t wonder anymore. Thanks to Nancy Pelosi, we know the answer.
If you’ve listened to a minute of news, or seen a newspaper, you know that President Trump cancelled a military flight for Nancy Pelosi and 7 other members of Congress to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan.
What those news outlets didn’t report is that there were another 70 to 80 people on the plane. Who were they? They were members of the Congress people’s family. And the trip they were taking was being charged entirely to taxpayers — tens of thousands of dollars for each person on the trip.
Why should we, the American taxpayers, foot the bill for a Congressperson’s lavish family vacation to Europe and Egypt? (Apparently Afghanistan was just a public relations stunt to justify the trip.)
So why should we pay? The short answer is we absolutely should NOT! It’s corruption run amok.
But greedy members of Congress slipped an amendment into some piece of legislation that allows family members to travel on the taxpayers’ dime. Did I say dime? More like the taxpayers millions because that’s how much they spend each year on family trips.
These are the same people who claim that a fence along our southern border to beef up security is a waste of money.
Talk about hypocrisy. How can this even remotely be right? How does Congress justify this to the American tax payers?
The simple truth is they can’t justify it. They don’t even try. Instead, they keep it under wraps and hope you and I never find out.
It’s just one more example of the swamp in Washington DC, and why we should insist it be drained immediately and completely.
If a member of Congress, or a cabinet member, or any other government official needs to fly overseas, that’s fine. But it shouldn’t be an excuse to stick taxpayers with the bill for a family junket.
This is just another perk of political power the politicians have awarded themselves. For all their talk about caring about the people, and fighting for us, the truth is that they’re far more interested in enjoying the high life and forcing us to pay for it. It’s not jut the Congressional version of travel-gate. It’s an outrage and if anyone in Congress had one ounce of real concern for the people they’re entrusted to serve they’d blow the whistle and make it stop.
