Why Do Democrats Hate America?

If you’re an American who has chosen to live in communist Cuba or China or Venezuela, or you’ve emigrated to Iran because you believe the Mullahs who run it are right, or you’ve moved to Russia because you think fascism is a better economic system, then I can see why you hate the United States.

But how to explain someone who immigrates here from a failed economic and political system like Ilhan Omar from Somalia or the family of Rashida Tlaib originally from Palestine? People in Somalia and Palestine, along with most of the rest of the world, suffer in miserable conditions. They don’t have access to adequate food, decent schools, or meaningful work, much less high quality health care.

So why do Omar and Tlaib hate America so much? Why come here, or stay here? And why would they serve in Congress unless their goal is to radically change America?

You might counter they grew up in a different cultural context than most Americans so they have different perspectives. This was the implication Nancy Pelosi used to justify Ilhan Omar’s many anti-semitic comments and tweets.

Maybe cultural context is a factor.

But how does that explain all the other Democrats in Congress, state legislatures, and city councils who condemn our nation for one perceived transgression or another? How do they justify stopping positive initiatives to improve our country?

We know businesses create more jobs, and workers make more, when taxes are reasonable and regulation is rational. But Democrats never get enough of raising existing taxes, starting new taxes, and ladling on burdensome regulations.

We know charter and private schools very often do a better job than traditional public schools especially in the poorest American neighborhoods, but progressives resist increasing the number of charter schools and they oppose even the mention of vouchers so poor families can choose private schools.

We know boys who grow up without fathers in communities with inadequate schools and little opportunity are many times more likely to drop out of school. We know they’re far more likely to end up in prison, far more likely to abuse drugs, and far more likely to commit suicide. We know they’re 15 times more likely to murder or be murdered than other population sub-groups. And yet progressive Democrats continue to promote policies that prevent family formation, and do nothing to help fatherless boys get the mentors that might deflect them from failure. Progressives support school unions over students. They support minimum wage requirements that keep young people off the first step of the economic ladder. They oppose incentives for businesses that bring their jobs to poor neighborhoods.

All across America, Democrat state and municipal leaders promote illegal immigration with taxpayer funded benefits, free education, and free health care. They even shield illegal immigrants who commit felonies from being turned over to federal immigration authorities in violation of federal law. And then progressives are surprised when crime goes up … when there are no jobs for poor, legal, Americans … when American students can’t write an understandable sentence because teachers spend time teaching English as a 2nd language.

Now, because a bad white cop killed a black man in Minneapolis, funding for police must be cut, or police departments must be entirely dismantled. Democrats like New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti are calling for hundreds of millions in cuts to local police. The Minneapolis City Council voted to eliminate their police department. They might as well have voted to endorse murder, rape, robbery, and assault.

Local progressives spend billions of taxpayer dollars giving benefits to illegal immigrants, but they’d rather defund the police than cut benefits for illegals so they can help their own poor neighborhoods.

Their justification is that every person is entitled to food, medical care, education and housing. Granted. But where does it end? And what about safety from crime, and gangs, and rapists, and killers? Do people deserve to live in safe neighborhoods, send their children to safe schools, enjoy safe parks?

Margaret Thatcher very wisely said the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money. Looser border rules, and even more benefits for illegal immigrants, will only stretch taxpayers to the breaking point.

And why do progressive state and local leaders think stores, banks, and factories will locate anywhere near cities without police departments?

Who is going to show up when a 7 year old dials 911 because daddy is beating mommy? Who is going to arrest the drunk driver? Who is going to investigate the drive-by killing of an innocent child? Who is going to put the repeat rapist behind bars? Who is going to pull over the teen doing 80 miles per hour while texting his girlfriend?

If your dining room needs a paint job, do you burn down the house and start from scratch?

Yes, we have a FEW bad cops, but does that make it open season on all cops? And do we do away with the idea of law enforcement?

Forcing taxpayers to pay higher taxes for more illegal immigration, for bigger government, and for failing schools insults us all. Doing it while reducing or eliminating police causes injury to us all.

Progressive Democrats at all levels are attacking our freedom and our constitution because they hate America.

Of course, America’s not perfect. But the ideals of personal dignity, individual freedom, and color-blind justice are perfect or as nearly so as humans can imagine them. And because that’s our target, and because most us are still committed to achieving those ideals, our country has become the most free, most prosperous, and most just in the entire history of the world.

Let’s understand our mistakes and seek unity to address them. But breaking our economy, burning our constitution, and giving up our freedom won’t achieve that. Those things will only make America more like the countries Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib’s family left.
